The Wayne County Board of Canvassers Has Granted a Recount of the November 8th Mayoral Election
Says the people of Detroit deserve a recount
Hendrix Head Shot

Detroit December 5, 2005 In the weeks since the November 8th general election, I have received literally hundreds of letters, e-mails and phone messages from people across Detroit who have serious questions and concerns about the accuracy of the vote count in the recent mayoral election.

To answer these questions and concerns, and bring this matter to closure I formally requested that the Wayne County Board of Canvassers conduct a recount of all 720 voter precincts. Because the canvassing process does not address the number of votes cast for each candidate -- it only reconciles the number of ballots cast with the number of people who voted as indicated in the poll books and the computers -- I believe a hand-count of those ballots is the only way to end the doubts and conspiracy theories that are splitting our community.

Last Thursday, December 1st, the Wayne County Board of Canvassers granted my request and the hand-count is expected to begin this week. Click here to read Detroit Free Press and Detroit News articles about the proceedings and the resulting decision of the Wayne County Board of Canvassers.
